Question 1: Describe the lesion.

Throughout the intimal surface of the aorta there are multifocal to coalescing, slightly raised, firm, tan to white plaques.

Question 2: What process is most likely to have occurred?

Metastatic calcification

Question 3: Name one potential cause.

Any casue of increased serum calcium would be acceptable. Examples include chronic renal failure, increased levels of vitamin D, increased levels of PTH.
